the begining
THIS IS THE ASSEMBLY
Design PhaseIdentify the Problem=MAKING alocker that is able to keep me organize and that is has to places to put a laptop and persona \items and a bigger area to put sweaters. also to keep yourr lunch safe from getting esquise by the books
CHS lockers-The locker was 10" wide 17" tall and 11" this is the side of the locker and is also the measurments that i decided to use for my locker
Brainstorm Solutions=making a locker that is spaces and also a locker that should be useful.i will make the shelfs inside the locker darker and the walls of the locker lighter for that you are able to see inside of the locker.
Sketch Three Possible Solutions (include labels and important dimensions)
Identify Criteria and Constraints
the criteria is that i need to make a locker that will be useful and following the size that i was given.
Select an Approach (justify selection with specifics)
> create a special are to keep lunch safe
>smaller books or clothing

1. The folks at IDEO state that they are not experts in any given area. But, they do claim to be experts on the__the process of design_, which they apply to the innovation of consumer products.
2. After the team of designers is brought together, told the problem, and informed they have five days to “pull it off,” what phase of the design process do they immediately engage in? brainstorming designs 3. Give two examples of what the team members did during this phase.
1)they drew information about the shopping cart and what to improve of it
2)they drew sketches and put ideas to work.
1. drew sketches
2.they went to places were they use shopping carts and thats a way to find ideas and to see what they could improve
5. List five rules-of-thumb that IDEO employees follow when they share ideas during the brainstorming phase:
a. one conversation at a time
b. stay focused
c. encourage wild ideas
d. defer judgement
e. build on the ideas of others
6. Why should wild (and sometimes crazy) ideas be entertained during the brainstorming phase?
because is a way to get ideas and it is also a way to look at a different side of things. sometimes when we act wild and crazy we tend to open our mind to a more brought thing. it helps created ideas that other people mind like.
7. After the brainstorming phase was over, the team narrowed down the hundreds of ideas by _____________ for those ideas that were not only “cool” but also _________________ in a short period of time. What phase of the design process is this called?
by voting and also buildable meaning they can do....this is call criteria and contraints because they vote and by that they know if it is going to work and by knowing that they can build it they wont have know constraints.
8. IDEO believes that the ideas and efforts of a ______________ will always be more successful than the planning of a lone genius.
trial and error or of a team....
9. Once the ideas were narrowed down and divided into categories, the group was split into four smaller teams. What phase(s) of the design process was each of these groups responsible for?shopping ,safety checking it out and also what others wil look
10. The leaders at IDEO believe that ________________ behavior and a ______________ environment are two important reasons why their employees are able to think quickly and creatively to produce innovative results.
a playful behavior and a fun enviorment
11. Sometimes, people come up with great solutions that work by trying their ideas first, and asking for _________________ later.
forgiveness
12. Design is often a process of going too far and having to take a few steps back. What phase of the design process would the critique of the four mock-ups come under?
Exploring Possibilities and also to find a aproach to improvements
13. Upon critique of the four teams’ models, it was obvious that none of the teams had developed an optimum solution. However, the people at IDEO believe that it is important to _____________ often in order to _____________ sooner.
fail and succeed
14. What percentage of the entire week’s time did it take to fabricate the final prototype?
they work 2 days and a hour and although they didnt work two straight days they split the time in the five days that they had.
15. Instead of showering his design team with a tremendous amount of praise, what did the boss require his employees to do with their new design?
find out opinions and by knowing what they can improve in their project.
16. Of all the things that we are surrounded by every day, what has not been placed through the design process?
well everything has gone through design even nature now a days we try to even make it how we want to and one thing that i could say that they dont design is a baby but i dont know if that conserns with this.
1. What did you find to be the most impressive part of the team’s effort?
they were able to stay on task even if they know that it took a long time to do it and the other thing that impress me was that they were able to put all their ideas together and sometimes that is hard.another thing that impress me was that they all work together unlike in some teams only one person those all the work and that is wrong.
2. What advantages are there to having a design team with members that have non-engineering backgrounds?
they are able to bring different ideas and they are able to put their perspective of a consumer unlike a engineering their ideas only pertains of makin g something work unlike a non engineering they want something that works and also something that will look kool and that they can use all the time.
3. There was a point in the process where a self-appointed group of adults stepped up, stopped the ideas, and redirected the group to break up into teams. Why was this done?
to be able to get more ideans and to make the process work faster .this is also a way to work ideas down because each team can work one idea .
4. At the end of the video, Dave Kelly states, “Look around. The only things that are not designed are the things we find in nature.” Can you think of anything that would contradict this statement?
well now they clon nature meaning that they take their blood and make copies of a animal and they do things to plan to make them grow a certain way / fruits they put things to make them grow bigger or faster.

the glider
the second glider
) THE CHALLANGE is to make our glider fly amd at the beggining we thought it could be easy but it wasnt at the beggining we made one gliders but it broke so we were left without any materials so we ended up with a biggier challange of using limited resources to make another glider that could work.
2) Brainstorm solutions: making a light glider that doesnt weight to much.
-What are the rules of brainstorming? well their are not really rules the rules could be to have a actual glider for when we try than and to try your best not just make a glider that we didnt really like.
-List your ideas:1)one of my ideas was to make a glider that was small with long winds
2)my second idea was to make a long glider with the winds a bit bend because like that it will get enough air inside the winds for it to fly and hopefully it will be able to stay in the air long.
3)my thrid idea was to make a glider with a tail and with a head and with a long center part.and it could be made of normal printer paper but we could still use the wood that we were given.we could use the paper that they gave us.
4)but we end it up making another brain storm after our first glider broke.
a glider shape like a cross and insted of wood we could use paper roll up into pieces of wood
a glider shape like a circle and we could use pencils like woo
-Sketch at least two of them
3) Specify:
-Criteria
-Constraints (be specific about materials available)
one of the constraints was to make it fly
another is that we didnt have enough materials we were only given paper and tinny pieces of wood that were really easy to brake specially while trying to work with than and that was one of the hardest thing that we face because pieces could just end up breaking.
the biggest constrain that we had was that our first glider broke and we were left without any materials and we had to make something work in just one day. but at the end of the day paper sticks made our glider work and fly atlist for a bit.
one constraint that we had was that it was hard to come up with ideas speacially if we didnt seen to agree in my team.
another constrain was that the glue didnt want to glue.
we should had broke our fisrt glidder it was hard to make a second one
the chart was helpful because it help us decide what to improve in our glidder specially when at the beginning it only seem to go backward
the first glader it broke in a windy day
4)develop solution
the chart
the cab
the first glider
the newwwwwwwwwwww glider is awsome .. the second glider it didnt use alot of materials but it work maybe it didnt fly as much as we wanted but we put our time and afford to provide the best work we could with the lil material that we have we made it happen with paper.

Egg drop challenge
it weight 75...
Team up with a partner
leticia Vargas
Define the challenge, criteria and constraints
The challenge: construct a barrier to protect the egg from breaking when dropped off the 2nd floor balcony of the 700 building
no constraints or criteria
but to get as many points as possible for the achivements one has to:
make the barrier a certain size
biggest: material fits into a paper box
smallest: material fits into an altoid box
Brainstorm solutions
first:
a box with clothing to cover the egg
second:
bubble wrap,a small box and the egg inside
third:
two caps inside each other, clothing, inside the cups, than top to cover it and the egg
fourth:a bag with clothing and also bubble wrap around the egg to make it stay together and not break
Identify materials to bring in for "Build Day" (block day)
clothing racks, two plastic cups and tape and also a cover for the cups.
Achievements:
Brainstorming-Create a sketch of one possible solution. Include labels.
-Create a sketch of another possible solution. Include labels.
-Create a sketch of a third possible solution. Include labels.
Material Prep
-Generate a list of materials required for build day.
two cups
tape
clothing racks
a cover
-Document a plan to ensure materials are brought in on block day.
well i live with my sister so i made sure that we both remember to bring the materials and i put a alarm on my phone to remind me of the materials in the morning.
Build Achievements
Material Size:
(your egg is not included in the material size)
(air is ubiquitous and not included in material size. "Rare" commodities like helium are.)
-Your materials fit inside a printer paper box
a cup is small, so it fit in the printer paper box
-Your materials fit inside a shoe box
the cup is smaller than a shoe box, so it fit inside a shoe box as well
Drop Achievements
Drop Accuracy:
we hit the center in the middle and than it bounce to the first line..
the weight of the cup made it roll to the first line
-You hit the butcher paper and first line.
Egg Resilience:
When we unwrapped the egg it was still completely intact, no cracks or anything..we made itttttt yupppppppppp
-Your egg didn't break in any way! (awarded three times)
-Your egg didn't break in any way! (awarded three times)
-Your egg didn't break in any way! (awarded three times)
Communicate Results Achievements
-Create promotional materials for your design.
-Model your solution using CAD software.
-Create a multiview drawing of your CAD model.
-Dimension your multiview drawing.
Other Achievements
-Help set up the Bullseye.
-Come up with a clever name Mr. Olson uses for an existing Achievment.
-Design an Achievement Mr. Olson approves for next year's Egg Drop Challenge.
that they use the least amount of products and that they make it more challenging
-Suggest a redesign to the activity that Mr Olson confirms he will use for next year's Egg Drop Challenge.
let us know that we have to make a drawing or take a picture and also it was a great activity and you should keep on using this activity.

) What is the TED organization about?
the ted organization is to share information about the world like technology and things like that in the website.
2) What is the purpose of their website and how does the functionality of their site support that?
The purpose of the website is to spread new ideas and ways of thinking about technologically inclined, the entertainers and the designers. it shows lilttle videos about those subjects the videos are not that long like that people dont get bore of watching it becuase when they are to long it bores you. the new ideas that it gives you can apply them to alot of things.
3) As Engineers and Problem Solvers, which topic areas (the choices from the “Show talks related to:” section on the sidebar) are of most interest to us? Justify your answer
TECHNOLOGY – because the technology is something really important because it creates our future without us realizin. we are learning alot of new ways in our ingeniring class that will help us create some type of technology that will help develope a new thing for the future. technology also makes a object more apiling to people
DESIGN – in our ingeniring class we also care about how the design will look how the visual view will be. becuase if it doesnt have a good design the product will not look good.
SCIENCE- its also need it becuase we have to look at the science behine it and try to make it something better.
4 Michael Pawlyn Using Nature's Genius in Architecture, this video is really usefull because you use architecture and design elements in engineering and because its base in what we are learning.Eythor Bender demos human exoskeletons its not as usefull but for me it gives me ideas because we get to know the human sekeleton and how is base and how engineering has different stops as the human exoskeleton . Thomas Thwaits How I Built a Toaster -- he build a toaster from scratch and he use alot of design and this is a good video becuase it shows that we can do anytthing that we want if we have commitment.
5 This video provides the idea of creating one building that deposits its waste and on the wastes way to another building it would be turned into organic material and it will benefit the other building as well its really interesting becasue it will turn into organic material and it will not affect the earth. that way we can also save the enviorment in some way the design of this building its really interesting.
the way that everything is connected and how we can create a never ending cycle of life andalso how we can persive the worl and make it better it will be a never ending cycle.
6. i can help in multiple ways becuase this days you can help alot its not just about saying it and not doing it because you can search the web and find places and things to be frienddly to the enviorment by creating new designs and more building like this.

1) Primary Function
The primary function is to add staples into a paper or anything that you want some people use it to put things together that involves like cartboard.
2) How I Think It Works
A stapler works by using force to push a staple through the paper, then secure the pages together. It can be used for locking pages of a document together, or for tacking, when the stapler is opened up and used to staple items to a flat surface
the head and the base . Connected to the head is the magazine , which holds the staples. The head is connected to the base by a hangar , which is soldered in place. The pin at the back of the stapler allows the head to swing up and down to load staples or in some models open up completely for use.
the loading zone- The staples are loaded into the magazine so that the two points face towards the base of the stapler.
The spring -creates tension that pushes the staples toward the front of the stapler. When pressure is applied to the head of the stapler, the magazine pushes down on the paper, and a metal plate in the head of the stapler pushes the front staple down the magazine. The two points are forced into the paper, piercing the pages until they come into contact with the anvil.
There is a curved groove -in the anvil. The ends of the staple are forced into this groove, where the pressure forces them to bend. They bend inwards, creating a lock around the pages.
3) My Black Box Schema
4) Visible Mechanical Components
the two mechanical component is when you push it down and the staple comes and also when you add the staples into the stapler it pushes them to the front for when you press it down it can come out..
5) A Function That Cannot Be Identified
i dont think its hard to identified everything about the stapler becuase its a easy mechanically. the springs makes everything happen for me becuase they give it the force.

Rather than being flat, the form/shape- it has a the top going a lil up and the bottom flat for is easy when you have to stapler something and nothing can stand in the way for you can stapple your paper.
but staplers come in different sizes and shapes for easy to carry and take any were
The texture- its not that soft it doesnt even look like its soft i think it was designed to look and feel a little hard its also heavy not alot buts just enough
The emphasis- on both ends were design not to look at like becuase the back its insome way close but the front is open for you can put the paper and stapple it
color- its a black solid color but the stapler comes in different colors like red and blue and much more.
Functional Analysis:
The target audience it will be for students and teachers and also offices and businesses becuase its used to put papers together and for you keep your stuff in one place and not have it all over the place. it also can relate to people that like to be orgonased. this product can relate to alot of people and not just one type of people
every organize person needs it
its for anyone but its for those who want to keep things in just one place and to keep it organize. its also for students for they can staple there stuff and just keep it organize for they can go back and look at it when there is ab test
the stapler its easy to use becuase it was design to be easy to manage and the only thing you have to do is just press it down and have a paper in the top of the bottom surfice and just push it down and its done. its also easy to add the staples when you run out of them its also affordable for anyone can buy it. i also think that becuase they can come in different sizes and colors is more apealing to the people becuase they can choice from so many colors and the size of the stapler they want.

What themes from this speech resonate with our class? the theme that relates to our class is that we need more enginers because we are being left behine and other countrys are improving more then us. it also says that enginering is the next big thing that if we are looking for a career that we should start thinking about enginering becuase its something that will keep growing. i agree with him because its true i know we also need math and science but enginers are the ones that make our country better we dont really have people improving our country.
What technology sector did the president compare to the space program of the 60's? What is the comparison? he compered with space rise
and with studies that our nation is going through and tthe things that he is comparing is the the alternative energy and ways of improving thing making them better and also better for our economy.
What is the name of the new program that will replace No Child Left Behind? How do the programs compare?rase to the top is saying that no kid will not have the posibilitys to go to school because they have not money and things like that. i think is comparing that he wants all the kids to go to school becuase we are getting behine like in china they are really into the studys there students are really prepere and he wants us to also be prepere and not let anything stop us from being the best that we can be
Last semester we talked about the trapped coal miners in Chile. Why did the president conclude his speech with an example relating to that? i think he spoke about them becuase he is saying just like they were strong to survive we can also be strong american and fix everything that we are through because this times are not easy for no one but if they were strong to survive we can also be strong.
What's interesting about the President's chief speechwriter? What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?i think his job involves hard work and its also really interesting becuase he gets to work for the president he gets to listend to everything that he is saying hand to hand its not like us that we watch it in the tv. i see myslf also working in the medical field just like my sister we are planing to study almost the same thing but in alot of ways is our dream to be in the medical field is somethng that have always intest us.
Has this speech inspired you and if so how? it inspire me to be something in my life and to keep my dreams a life because he seems that he cares about the future of all of us he also seems that he cares were we in life and that he wants us to become something and to become better americans

the car of the future 2010 model
- i found my advertisement in the magasine fast company in the first page
-its being marketed for a better, smarter and more ingenious cars. it has exclusive features like a 40 gig nav/entertaining system, to the adaptive real-time suspension, to the 280-hp direcct injected v-6. its what others cars are not. it marketing for better cars and making people buy this car because is better then the other ones
-As a team, discuss each of the advertisements selected. Record both team members observations for the advertisement you've selected. Analyze the add using the following Message Analysis considerations:
both of the team members-leticia and lilia
messege content-leticia and i we think that the message of this image is of a better and more ificient car. the message is berry bold becuase its showing you a nice shine car that it looks so nice that it makes you wanna have it.leticia-the image of this car its really bold like lilia say because its not just another car thats what is trying to tell you.
size and shape-lilia- i think the size and the shape are just right because its two pages of the magassing its not just one like a cheap advetisment the size of the car is just right not to big or to small. not saying that when its only one page makes it bad but you dont really get to have a better image of the car.
leticia-i also think that the image its just right like lilia say its just the right lenght and the right color.to make it stand out.
both-we both agree that its just the right size and shape
readibility- letica- i think is easy to read and its not alot of text
lilia-i also think that its easy to read and its not to long that it makes you bore when you are reading it its just the right amouth o text that will keep you interested in the object and you also dont lose focuse
needs the audience - both- we both agree that its catchi becuase of the right use of color its not to bright but just having the red lights on the bad of a silver car it catches your eye.
use proven design and elements-both it does use the right elements and the right use of high and it also seems really hard to make in a computer. like when we make stuff in the computer its hard. it just make us wonder how many steps does it have.
- its important to identefy the trend becuase you have to see what people want it has to be apeling to others because if is not whats the point of putting it in the market. also for you can create new things in your design and make it to a more popular object. it will also help you know what new things you have to add and whats the new thing in the market for you can make a better and improve object
2. the humans play a big role because we determinatee if we like it or not just by seing how it looks and we also catecorased by like if the design is more in the clasie side or more in the outgoing side tings like that. we also determinate if the product will sale of not. we as humans we have become people that want new things and we are always looking for the next thing if we dont think that is the new big thing we will not buy it. i have also realize it also depends on the price becuase if is pricie people want it becuase it makes you look with money.
3. what type of graphic design they are into also. if its the type of peole your type of car will be apieling also i thing to what class of people you want to realite to.
4. what it the audience interested and also whats the new thing that everyone ones for you can create a much better product then the one they like. also you have to realize the price range what audience are you trying to go for the rich the middle class or the lower class it all depend in alot of things but the most important one is what is the new thing and what type of audience are you trying to go for.
